Vernon Davis’ career in transportation began modestly as a teenager sawing off wooden piers in the Skunk River for a bridge under construction there. He also worked on the Highway 14/Center Street Bridge in Marshalltown, Iowa and began paving asphalt for city streets and highways across the state for the Cessford Construction Company, located in Le Grand. Davis held many roles at Cessford including laborer, equipment operator, crew foreman and supervisor before eventually becoming vice president. Today Mr. Davis is retired after more than 40 years in the industry though his impact can still be seen on roads and bridges across Iowa.
